The Most Important School Supply of All!
September is National Library Card Sign-Up month and HMCPL wants to ensure every K-3 grader in Madison Co. has this priceless tool in their book bags this school year.
Owning a library card provides students the resources they need to compete academically. HMCPL provides students free access to databases of news articles, encyclopedias and test preparation materials, as well as homework help and resources.
Thanks to this special initiative, HMCPL will partner with Huntsville City, Madison City, and Madison County schools for a two-week special Library Card Registration drive. Sign-up cards and instructions will be given to each student to take home the first week of September, with each teacher collecting all of the completed forms for the classroom during the September 5-16 drive. Be sure to watch for your child's registration form, and ensure they are carrying the most powerful school supply of all in their backpacks this school year!
The new library cards will be delivered directly to the schools for distribution September 26-30.
Library Card Sign-up Month was begun by the American Library Association's Campaign for America's Libraries in 1987, with the library card being touted as every youth's most important school supply. It is also every child's smartest card, according to the campaign's public service ads, because it is absolutely free of charge.
