Author Event: Tayari Jones
Nationally acclaimed author Tayari Jones comes to the Main library May 13 to talk about her latest novel, Silver Sparrow.
A breathtaking story about a man’s deception, a family’s complicity, and the two teenage girls caught in the middle, the novel is a Women’s National Book Association 2011 Great Group Read, a Slate Best Book of 2011 Pick, a Library Journal Top Ten Book for 2011, and an O: The Oprah Magazine Best Books selection for 2011.
Tayari Jones was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. Although she has not lived in her hometown for over a decade, much of her writing centers on the urban south. “Although I now live in the northeast,” she explains, “my imagination lives in Atlanta.”
Tayari is a graduate of Spelman College, The University of Iowa, and Arizona State University. Currently, she is an Associate Professor in the MFA program at Rutgers-Newark University. She is spending the 2011-12 academic year at Harvard University as a Radcliffe Institute Fellow, researching her fourth novel.
This event is part of Tayari’s 2012 national book tour. Books will be available for purchase and signing at the event.
