Happy 235th birthday to our flag!
Enjoy a day filled with patriotic programs on Thursday, June 14, at the main Huntsville-Madison County Public Library courtesy of LearningQUEST.
Children’s activities will be held in the Youth Services department from 9:30 to 11 a.m., including a showing of the DVD “George Learns the Pledge” plus refreshments, crafts and more provided by American Legion Auxiliary Unit 237.
Boy Scout Troop 400 will show a flag retirement ceremony in front of the library at 11 a.m.
The Sunshine Singers from the Senior Circle of Crestwood Hospital will celebrate our country’s history in songs ranging from the Revolutionary War era through the Gulf War period during a concert at 11:30 a.m. Bring a sack lunch. A giant birthday cake and beverages will be provided.
Spirit of Freedom award recipient Vane Scott will explain how we got our flag and its significance in establishing our country during a program at 1 p.m. in the auditorium. The DVD “The Many Faces of Old Glory” will also be shown; it tells the story of the 20 flags that have flown over our land.
