Happy birthday, Harry Potter!

Celebrate all things Harry Potter during the week of Harry's birthday, July 31. The Bailey Cove Public Library hosts Harry Potter Week, July 29-August 2.

This year's events will include Quidditch, Wizards Chess, wand making, and more!  All events will take place at 4pm.  For more information please call Julia Hendon at 256-881-0257.

Here's the week's schedule:

  • Monday- We will be playing Wizard’s Chess, which means the players are the chess pieces.  Although our game will not be as violent as the real wizard’s chess it should be just as fun!
  • Tuesday- Sadly we cannot travel to Ollivander’s but we can create our own wands.  Put your craftiness to the test and create your own unique wand.  All supplies provided.
  • Wednesday- It’s Harry Potter’s Birthday!!! We will celebrate Harry and J.K. Rowling’s birthdays with cake, snacks, and possibly some trivia!
  • Thursday- You can’t practice divination without a good tea cup, but you are in luck because we have a few.  Paint your own tea cup while enjoying tea and making some predictions and playing some board games.  Space is limited and sign-ups required.
  • Friday- QUIDDITCH!  Do you have what it takes to be a Seeker?  What about a Beater?  Or even a Keeper? We need you and all your friends to join us on the Quidditch Pitch.  By the standards of the International Quidditch Association we will be doing our best as muggles to master the game of wizards!  Just don’t forget your broom and tennis shoes.  This event will take place at Willow Park near the Bailey Cove Library.

You can continue your Harry Potter celebration by showing your support for the HP fandom at our Fandom Showdown on Saturday, August 3, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the Main Library. We’ll host games, costume contest, and discussion panels. Know a good fandom topic you would like to hear a panel discuss?  What about one you would like to be a member of a panel for?  Now is your chance!  Submit your suggestions for panels you would like to see at the Fandom Showdown!  Be sure to include a brief description of what should be discussed and if you would like to participate on the panel.  Please email your submissions to jhendon [at] hmcpl [dot] org no later than July 24.
