Make a new purse from an old book

Books do wear out, a sad fact for bibliophiles. But don’t toss those old volumes in the trash. You can give them new life and have fun, too.

Library Executive Director Laurel Best, her husband Art Abdinoor, and outreach librarian Mandy Pinyan will show you how to turn a book cover into a stylish purse.

Sponsored by Friends of the Library, the program will be held on Wednesday, November 13, at 1 p.m. in the auditorium of the Main Library downtown. The materials fee of $10 pays for supplies to make one purse, but you may bring ribbons, buttons, and other embellishments to add to your creation.

Class size is 25 people, and registration deadline is Friday, November 8. Payment of fee is due at time of registration. Call 256-532-5950 to sign up.
