Celebrating Movers and Shakers

We'll celebrate the lives and contributions of renowned African Americans who have had a strong influence on American culture each week in February at the Bessie K. Russell Library, 3011-C Sparkman Drive.

We begin the series on February 3 at 2 p.m. with Bob Marley, a Jamaican singer-songwriter who achieved international fame through a series of crossover reggae albums.

“History Makers: Courage and Faith” on February 10 at 2 p.m. will include civil rights activist the Rev. Al Sharpton, poet Nikki Giovanni, and best-selling author Terry McMillan.

Because the library system is closed for Staff Development Day on February 17, the program on boxing legend Muhammad Ali will be held the next day, Tuesday, February 18, at 2 p.m.

We’ll explore hip-hop and rap music on February 24 at 2 p.m.
