Each Monday in October is Fright Night at the Main Library downtown. We'll present three classic horror movies for your Halloween enjoyment.

October 7th          Salem’s Lot, Part 1 (1979) James Mason, David Soul, Bonnie Bedelia .  Horror guru Tobe Hooper directed this surprisingly scary made for TV movie of Stephen King’s vampire classic.

Play it safe

Fun on the field can lead to pain after the game. Learn how to prevent and treat common sports injuries at the next Health Matters @ Madison program on Monday, September 23, at 6:30 p.m. at the Madison Public Library.

Professionals from the Madison City Wellness Center will offer ways to play it safe while having fun on the playing field.

Meet the Author: John Pritchard

John Pritchard brings back bawdy philosopher Junior Ray, along with his sidekick Voyd Mudd, in this third hilarious installment of the critically acclaimed “Junior Ray” series. Hear him talk about his work on December 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Library.

In Sailing to Alluvium, Pritchard continues the madcap adventures of the duo, who have become “diktectives” to stop the murderous activities of a semi-secret, lethal organization of Southern women, the AUNTY BELLES, headed by Miss Attica Rummage.

How I Write: NaNoWriMo 101

Find the inspiration you need to write your novel when three published Alabama authors share their writing methods on Thursday, October 3, at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Library.

"How I Write: NaNoWriMo 101" is our kickoff program for National Novel Writing Month 2013 (NaNoWriMo), with activities starting November 1.

Live at the Library

LearningQUEST and the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library present Live at the Library: Wayne Flynt & Kate Campbell on Wednesday, September 25, at 6:30 p.m., in the auditorium of the Main Library.

Live at the Library is a collaborative exchange of songs, stories, and readings between singer-songwriter Kate Campbell and author/historian Dr. J. Wayne Flynt. Campbell’s literate songs weave effortlessly with Flynt’s chosen passages from some of the South’s most noted authors.

Revisit the Body Farm

The Huntsville Library Foundation will host the return of Jefferson Bass, the writing team of journalist Jon Jefferson and forensic anthropologist Dr. Bill Bass, on Friday, September 27, at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Library. Read more about Revisit the Body Farm

Rummage and Raffle at Gurley

The Friends of Gurley Library will hold a Rummage and Raffle fundraiser on September 20-21.

The fun starts with an early-bird shopping opportunity on Friday, September 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Gurley Library, 225 Walker St., in Gurley. Admission is $5 at the door.

Learn more about the lives of professional classical musicians when Twickenham Fest musicians, with co-founders Susanna Phillips and Matthew McDonald, appear at two Huntsville-Madison County Public Library locations on Saturday, August 31.
