Day of Action for reading

The Huntsville-Madison County Public Library is partnering with United Way of Madison County for the Day of Action Summer Reading Carnival on Tuesday, June 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hazel Green Elementary, Horizon Elementary, and Morris Elementary. Read more about Day of Action for reading

LEGO Show!

Come to the biggest local LEGO display yet from the Tennessee Valley LEGO Club on June 29 and 30 at the Main Library.

We’ll have towns, working trains, and even a LEGO robot that solves the Rubik’s Cube in minutes. More than 100 prizes will be given away all weekend. LEGO fans of all ages will be inspired by the things they can build with plastic bricks.

Discover Tech Keynote Address: Dr. Neil Lamb

Dr. Neil Lamb, faculty investigator at HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, discusses bioengineering breakthroughs in Huntsville and the future of research in the field on Thursday, June 6, at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Library.

Open House at Main

We will celebrate National Library Week with an open house at the Main Library, 915 Monroe St., on Wednesday, April 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. The dedication ceremony for the new Family Computing Center on the second floor will be held at 2 p.m.

Meet the Author: Skip Tucker

Friendly fire — or murder? On Sunday, Aug. 11, longtime political aide Skip Tucker discusses his first novel, Pale Blue Light, a historical fiction that dares ask if the shooting of Confederate Lt. Gen. Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson was an accident, or if more sinister forces were involved.

“Pale Blue Light” was another, lesser known nickname for Stonewall Jackson. Skip discusses the setting of this Civil War spy thriller, as well as some of the personalities featured.

Vive le Livre 2013: Rick Bragg

Rick Bragg returns to Huntsville on Thursday, September 12, for the 2013 edition of Vive le Livre, the Huntsville Library Foundation’s fundraiser to benefit the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library.

The event starts at 6 p.m. in the Thurber Arts Center auditorium on the Randolph School campus, 4915 Garth Road. Tickets for Rick’s talk as well as a book-signing and dessert reception start at $75. Read more about Vive le Livre 2013: Rick Bragg
