YA Book Club at Madison

Madison's YA Book Group will be meeting this Thursday, March 20th, 2014, at 5:00 in the YA room at the Madison Library. We will be discussing Marissa Meyer's Cinder, a futuristic retelling of Cinderella, involving androids, cyborgs, lunar aliens, and of course, a ball. Come discuss the timeless fairy tale set in a seemingly too fantastical setting.

Madison's YA Book Group meets every third Thursday in the YA room at 5:00pm. April's book will be The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate by Jacqueline Kelly.

Celtic Writing Class

Learn to write your name in Celtic Letters on Saturday, March 29 @ 10am at the Madison Public Library. Discover Celtic designs and decorations as you turn your name into a work of art. Event will be hosted by special guests from the Fitness Arts Center.
Event is free, but RSVP is required. Event is suitable for ages 5-12.

Homework Haven: ACT Special Session

Homework Haven presents ACT Resources at your Library! Are you getting ready to take the ACT in the coming weeks? Madison Library will provide a special session of Homework Haven today, March 19th, at 4:00, highlighting library resources for test prep. Come to the Young Adult room at 4:00 if interested. No RSVP required.


Calligraphy: Beginning Italic

Join instructor, Carol Tillman, for this six week course to learn the Italic or Chancery Cursive hand using a broad edge pen. The Italic hand dates from about 1400 and is probably the most common text hand used today. The class will meet every Thursday, beginning April 3 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m.

Carol has been doing Calligraphy for over 35 years and is a member of the Calligraphy Arts Guild of Huntsville and the Utah Calligraphic Artists.

Latin American Crafts: Huichol Art

Weave a Basket Around a Gourd

Friday, March 28, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Maximum number of participants: 12 (adults and youth ages 14 and up.)

Supply fee: $14

Learn how to prepare a gourd and finish it with "memory ink", and weave a basket with round reed around the gourd. You'll learn how to handle basket reed and how to shape a basket. Weave in three-rod wale or chase-weave using dyed reed to decorate the gourd. No basket making or gourd decorating experience is required.

Photographer to visit Madison Library

Douglas Stoffer, local author of Reflections, A Photographic Journey in Black and White, will talk about his work on Monday, March 24, at 6:30 p.m. at the Madison Library.

Teen Writers' Group March Meeting

Madison's Teen Writers' Group will meet Thursday, March 6th, at 5:00pm in the meeting room. We will discuss characters and character types. No RSVP necessary. But please remember to bring your wordy creations to share with fellow pensmiths! Any questions, call Doom at 256-461-0046.

Amanda Clardy from Huntsville Hospital will discuss services available to young adults with special needs in our community on Friday, March 7, at noon during the Health Matters @ Madison program at the Madison Public Library.
