T. Gary Wicks will present a program based on his book Huntsville Air and Space. The Air Age in Huntsville Alabama began a century ago with Will Quick’s design and construction of a Flying Machine, which he demonstrated in 1908 for patenting and manufacture. The Space Age began in Huntsville a half a century later with the Von Braun rocket team’s design and construction of the Redstone Jupiter C, which, in 1958, places the free world’s first satellite, Explorer I, into the Earth’s orbit. A decade later in 1969, the Huntsville team performed human kind’s greatest technological achievement of the century with its Saturn V rocket – manned landings on the moon.
