How does a cloud transform into a strong thunderstorm?

Learn the answer to this question and many others in an hour-long program on weather at 3pm, Wednesday, Sept 21, 2011 at the Eleanor Murphy Library.

The instructor, Russell Page, will present a child safe multi-sensory class on weather in a “Mr. Wizard’ format where children have a hands-on learning experience. Educators and parents homeschooling their children are welcome. The program is appropriate for children in kindergarten to the 4th grade.

The object of the lesson is to interest children in science and mathematics.

About Russell Page:

Mr. Page is a retired meteorologist who was both a certified Weather Officer in the Air Force and a certified weather forecaster in the National Weather Service. He briefly served as a research meteorologist in NOAA’s Environmental Research Laboratory at Idaho’s National Nuclear Engineering Laboratory at Arco, ID, and as a limnologist for the Department of Interior’s Bureau of Sports Fisheries at Clemson, South Carolina. In December 2005, he received an individual Gold Medal for Customer Service from Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez.  He has taught many classes on weather and the scientific method in the Anchorage School District. For many years, he was the set-up coordinator for the Alaska State Science Fair. Read more about The Science of Thunderstorms
