Trick or Treat at the Library 2

Location: Main Library
Date: Monday, October 31, 2011 - 4:00pm - 6:00pm

Join the Library on October 31st, for a Spooktacular Halloween Celebration!!!  All the public services desks will be decorated for Halloween and children will be invited to go from desk to desk to "Trick or Treat".  The Youth Services department will also host some not-to-spooky Halloween stories, fun and games.  Make sure your little Trick or Treaters wear their costumes!

TV Time Machine

October 24th—The Man from U.N.C.L.E.—Two episodes of NBC’s hit 1964 spy series starring Robert Vaughn as the intrepid Napoleon Solo and David McCollum as sidekick Illya Kuryaken.  The show generated action figures, a neat theme song and a spin-off series, The Girl from U.N.C.L.E.

The shows are free and participants are encouraged to bring food and snacks.  You can even bring a TV dinner!

October 17th--The Avengers—Two episodes of the stylish and quirky British spy series first shown on ABC in 1966 starring Patrick McNee as the debonair John Steed and Diana Rigg as the leather-clad and deadly Mrs. Emma Peel.  Guest speaker Anissa Graham will talk about Diana Rigg’s groundbreaking character.

Meet the Huntsville Feminist Chorus

Enjoy a musical performance by the Huntsville Feminist Chorus followed by a question and answer period about the chorus, their history and purpose.

This event will take place in the Main branch auditorium. It is free and open to the public.

Artucopia: Arts and Humanities Kickoff Celebration

The Arts Council and Huntsville Madison County Public Library are joining efforts to celebrate "National Arts & Humanities Month" throughout October, with a kick-off event taking place Saturday, October 1 at Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment.

Come out at 9am for a SPACES Sculpture workshop creating a recycled art project, 10am for Panoply's Homegrown Talent Competition FINALS, and 12pm to enjoy US Army Materiel Command Band's "Tennessee River Ramblers", then hang around the mill for the Artist Market! What a fun day!

The Science of Thunderstorms

How does a cloud transform into a strong thunderstorm?

Learn the answer to this question and many others in an hour-long program on weather at 3pm, Wednesday, Sept 21, 2011 at the Eleanor Murphy Library.

The instructor, Russell Page, will present a child safe multi-sensory class on weather in a “Mr. Wizard’ format where children have a hands-on learning experience. Educators and parents homeschooling their children are welcome. The program is appropriate for children in kindergarten to the 4th grade.

Movie Madness: Halloweentown

It seems that Marnie's mother Gwen (Judith Hoag) has been hiding a big secret from her three children--all of them possess supernatural powers. Now that it's Marnie's thirteenth birthday, she must begin her training as a witch or lose her powers forever.
