United Way Day of Action

Location: Mill Creek Greenway

A community party based on the theme of "Pirates, Princesses, and Buried Treasure". It will feature a performance by the HMCPL Puppet Troupe, crafts and activities for Pirates and Princesses, free food and drinks, a free book to every child that attends, and the ribbon cutting on the new Mill Creek Greenway Wonder Walk.

Tom Sawyer Day at Cathedral Caverns

The Becky Thatcher Tea Party is for ages 5-8 and will generate excitement for the characters in "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer." Attendees will enjoy a real tea service with an etiquette coach to provide tips on the proper behavior at the table. The Big Read Keynote Lecture with Dr. Christopher Metress

Location: Main Library
Date: Tuesday, April 6, 2010 - 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Dr. Christopher Metress, English Professor and Director of the University Fellows Program at Samford University, will present a lecture on Mark Twain's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. After receiving his Doctorate from Vanderbilt University in 1991, Dr. Metress taught at Wake Forest University for three years before coming to Samford in 1993. In the English Department, he teaches courses in American literature, film noir, and southern literature, and he frequently offers courses on British Literature at Samford's Daniel House in London, where he was professor-in-residence in the Fall of 1997.

Madison Public Library - Becky Thatcher Tea Party
