Two Ways to Make Rag Rugs

Location: Madison Public Library
Date: Friday, October 25, 2013 - 9:00am - 3:00pm

Learn two methods of making rag rugs and how to prepare the fabric.  Learn a few simple crochet stitches and crochet a mug rug from fabric strips in class.  Learn how to make a Navajo Knot, and make a rag rug with only your fingers, no tools.  You will know how to continue the work at home to make full-sized rugs.  No crochet or sewing experience is required. Bring a P or Q size crochet hook. Bring tightly woven fabric, such as a sheet, and a worn pair of jeans to recycle into the rugs.  Bring a sack lunch. Ages 14 and up.  Registration is required.

Weave a Melon/Egg Basket

Location: Madison Public Library
Date: Friday, September 27, 2013 - 9:00am - 3:00pm

Make an 8" melon/egg basket in class.  Both dyed reed and seagrass will be available for your basket.  No basket making experience is required. Bring a towel and a sack lunch. The leader will bring all the tools and other supplies you'll need.  Ages 14 and up.  Supply fee is $14.  Registration required. 

Weave a Melon/Egg Basket

Make an 8” melon/egg basket in class.  Learn how to handle reed, make a god’s eye and shape a ribbed basket.  Both dyed reed and seagrass will be available for decorating your basket.

No basket making experience is required.  Bring a towel (basket making is wet work) and sack lunch, and wear comfortable clothes.  The leader will bring all the tools and other supplies you'll need to use during the workshop. Signup required. Supply fee:  $14.

 

Beginning Quilling

Time: 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Instructor:  Carol Tillman

Supplies: Please bring a small ruler (6" - 8") and a small bottle of white glue.

Open to adults and youth ages 14 and up.

Beginning Quilling

Location: Madison Public Library
Date: Friday, October 18, 2013 - 9:00am - 11:00am

Join instructor Carol Tillman to learn the basic art of quilling.  Quilling consists of forming designs by rolling narrow strips of paper into scrolls and gluing them together. In this class, we will learn how to make basic shapes and then use those shapes to create flowers, animals, bugs, etc.
