Rocket City Rock & Soul

Join us November 15 at the Main Branch for this author event and book signing!

On November 15, 6:00pm Huntsville author, Jane DeNeefe, will discuss and read excerpts from her new book, Rocket City Soul: Huntsville Musicians Remember the 1960s in the HMCPL Main Branch Atrium. 

Music will be provided by Ivy Joe Milan and Jim Cavender and special guests, performing some of Huntsville’s musical greats from the 50s through the present.  Copies will be on sale at the event at $20 each, and books will be available online and in book stores beginning November 2.

An afternoon with Dr. Sonnie Hereford

We are honored to present a special talk by local civil rights activist, Dr. Sonnie Hereford, on November 13. His new memoir, Beside the Troubled Waters, chronicles his experiences during the civil rights era in Huntsville.

We are pleased to welcome three authors who have written important books that highlight Native American history and culture, for this special event:

1. Charles Moore , author of Come Tell Me How You Lived
This book contains local stories and rare information about Native Americans from along the Tennessee River. It has beautiful pictures of archeological artifacts. Here is a review of the book.

2. Butch Walker , author of Warrior Mountain
This book contains historical research on Native Americans from across North Alabama.

Meet Author Melanie Dickerson

Melanie Dickerson is an award-winning author of The Healer's Apprentice.  A former teacher, she now lives in the Harvest-Monrovia area where she spends her time writing and taking care of her husband and two daughters.  Her newest book, The Merchant's Daughter will release in November of this year.  Come meet Melanie and hear about her books and her publishing experience at the Monrovia Library.
