We are delighted to welcome author Christy Jordan, whose book The Southern Plate is recognized as one of the best Southern cookbooks in America. She also runs the website Southernplate.com, an indispensable resource for anyone who loves delicious, heart-warming Southern food.

"Pride and Passion" lecture by author Larry Lester

Location: Main Library
Date: Wednesday, April 27, 2011 - 6:30pm - 8:00pm

Larry Lester, co-founder of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, Missouri, and author of several books on the Negro Leagues, will touch briefly, but distinctly, on each of the six historical panels from 1860 to present day. He will dedicate a substantial portion of the program to answering questions, and will be selling and signing his books at this event.

This program will take place in the second floor events room of our Main branch. It is free and open to the public.

Joe Formichella, author of Here's to You, Jackie Robinson, will speak about the importance of baseball for the black community in general and how it changed the lives of a generation of young black boys in Mobile in particular. He will answer questions, and will have books for sale at this event.

This program will take place in the second floor events room of our Main branch. It is free and open to the public.

Discover your inner artist! This intro level painting class is family friendly and appropriate for everyone- whether you’ve been creating art for years, or can barely draw a smiley face.

All painting supplies are provided by the library. It’s free to the public, but we appreciate a small financial donation at this session from those who are able, to help us offset the cost of supplies.

Warning: Please wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty, and an apron if you have one. Acrylic paints can stain!
