Professor Anissa Graham, a native of Columbus, GA, will discuss how Phenix City was and is viewed by those who live across the Chattahoochee River.  The presentation will focus on the symbiotic relationship of the two towns, from the 1950s to the present.  “Up from The Ashes,” the documentary about Phenix City will also be shown.

In celebration of "Madison County Reads: Wicked City by Ace Atkins," the Reference & Adult Services Department will screen "Up From the Ashes: The Rebirth of Phenix City," the documentary which reveals the changes in Phenix City, Alabama, since the tumultuous 1950s. Professor Anissa Graham will follow the 30 minute documentary with a presentation entitled, "A View from Across the River." Graham, a native of Columbus, Georgia, will discuss how Phenix City was and is viewed by those who live across the Chattahoochee River.

In celebration of "Madison County Reads: Wicked City by Ace Atkins," the Reference & Adult Services Department will screen "Walking Tall," the 1973 film which follows the criminals rousted from Phenix City, Alabama. Bring your lunch. Drinks will be provided. The movie will be screened in the Second Floor Events Room at the Downtown Library at 915 Monroe Street.
