Murphy Writers Group: A Peer to Peer Writing Group

Location: Eleanor E. Murphy Branch Library
Date: Saturday, July 27, 2013 - 1:00pm - 3:00pm

The Murphy Writers Group, representing many different stages and genres of writing, will be meeting at 1pm on July 27th. This is a time change from the original 3:00pm meetings.

Members of the group are given the opportunity to read to their peers and receive positive and helpful feedback. The group is recommended for ages 14 and older. The group is led by Kemi Elufiede, a graduate student, who has extensive experience working with adult writers.

The members welcome a diverse group of individuals to join adventures with literature.

FREE Health Screenings

Huntsville Hospital Mobile Medical Unit will offer free health screenings, for children and adults.

 

Results are reported to the patient onsite.  All test results are completely confidential.

How to Do Things: Bead Embroidery Badge

Location: Main Library

Anna Hanlin of the Huntsville Bead Society teaches how to make a simple embroidery badge.

Bring your ideas for badges.  Anna will provide all tools and materials for use in class.

How to Do Things: Make a “Navajo Knot Mug Rug”

Location: Main Library
Date: Tuesday, September 10, 2013 - 6:30pm - 8:00pm

Open to adults and youth ages 14 and up.

Learn how to make a Navajo Knot, and make a rag rug using only your fingers, no tools.  You can make a mug rug in class, and continue working at home to make a trivet or full-sized rug.  Learn how to prepare the fabric strips and how to join the strips into round and oval rugs.  You’ll be recycling a worn pair of jeans.  No sewing experience is needed.

How to Do Things: Introduction to Basket Making

Open to adults and youth ages 14 and up.

Weave a basket on a 5” x 8” wooden base.  You’ll learn how to handle basket reed and how to shape a basket.  No basket making experience is required.

Geocaching 101 for Families

Learn about geocaching during an hour-long, free class on Saturday, July 13, at 1 p.m. in the meeting room at the Eleanor Murphy Library. Read more »
