A Virtual Field Trip to the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute

Location: Main Library
Date: Wednesday, February 13, 2013 - 1:00pm - 2:00pm

Join us for a very special event for African American History month. The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is sending instructors to Huntsville to conduct a "Virtual Field Trip" to the Institute! They'll talk about the events that happened in Birmingham in 1963 (in a child friendly way, of course), tell you about the BCRI, and help the kids play a Tug of War object lesson about equality.  This Virtual Field Trip is perfect for homeschooling families with kids in grades K-5.

A Visit with Harriet Tubman

Location: Main Library
Date: Thursday, February 7, 2013 - 6:30pm - 7:30pm

This program, appropriate for all ages, features a re-enactment of famous abolitionist Harriet Tubman by local actor, Renee Mobley.   Renee’s beautiful and inspired portrayal of Harriet Tubman was very popular in previous years and we are so glad she is back for 2013!  At the end of the performance she hosts a question and answer session where children and their families can ask questions about Harriet Tubman, history, and the civil rights movement.
