Introduction to Weaving Bands With the Inkle Loom

Location: Bailey Cove Branch Library

Learn to weave on an inkle loom, which can be used to make narrow bands.  In class you can make a bookmark, hatband, strap or small pouch, depending on how much time you want to spend.  Begin to learn the language of weaving.

The inkle looms will be ready to use when you arrive, and you’ll learn how to dress an inkle loom.  No weaving experience is required. 

The leader will bring all the tools and other supplies you’ll need to use during the workshop. 

Bring a sack lunch.

Triangle Loom Weaving: Beginner and Beyond

Location: Bailey Cove Branch Library
Date: Friday, September 21, 2012 - 9:00am - 3:00pm

Learn to weave on a triangle frame loom with continuous thread, and how to finish and join the triangles.  In this workshop we’ll use a 36” loom to make a child’s shawl or adult scarf.  We’ll have a fashion show of scarves, shawls, ruanas and ponchos to give you ideas.  You’ll learn how to make your own triangle looms in various sizes.  No weaving experience is required.

Beginning Crochet and Broomstick Lace

Learn a couple of crochet stitches and you’ll soon be making “peacock eye” lace.  Broomstick lace can be used to make all sorts of lacy items from afghans to scarfs to shawls.  Broomstick lace allows you to make larger items faster because the loops take up a lot of space.  Previous crochet experience is not required.

Knitting Between the Lines: Isaac's Storm

September 8, 1900, began innocently in the seaside town of Galveston, Texas. Even Isaac Cline, resident meteorologist for the U.S. Weather Bureau failed to grasp the true meaning of the strange deep-sea swells and peculiar winds that greeted the city that morning. Mere hours later, Galveston found itself submerged in a monster hurricane that completely destroyed the town and killed over six thousand people in what remains the greatest natural disaster in American history—and Isaac Cline found himself the victim of a devestating personal tragedy.
