The Art of Editing: How to Self-Edit, Get Feedback, and Choose an Editor

Do you recognize any of the following scenarios?

  • Your manuscript is two-thirds finished, and you're struggling to reach the finish line.
  • You've revised and re-read your piece so many times that you no longer can see its merits or challenges.
  • You have an outline for an article but do not have the time for the necessary research.
  • You've finished your writing but have a nagging suspicion that grammar check did not catch all the comma splices and unnecessary commas, your grammatical Achilles' heel.

What's a writer to do?

This workshop will offer helpful tips on how to self-edit, how to get the feedback you need, and how to find and choose an editor appropriate for your work.

Dr. Sandra Shattuck has over twenty years’ experience teaching writing and literature at the college level. She has worked with the National Writing Project and is a freelance editor.

Non-profit Lunch and Learn: Challenges Facing a Not-for-Profit Hospice in a For-Profit World

Huntsville-Madison County Public Library

Second Floor Events Room

Thursday June 20, 2013 - 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Donna Davenport, Volunteer Coordinator of Hospice Family Care, will deliver a presentation that will provide clarification to many of the
misconceptions about hospice services, i.e. who is eligible, when are they eligible, what services are provided, and who pays for the
services.  Hospice Family Care is a not-for-profit hospice provider and how that makes us different from the many for-profit providers will be discussed, as well as the challenges we face to continue to provide exceptional care for the seriously ill in a very competitive
environment.

For more information, please contact the Reference Desk at 256-532-5975 or askus@hmcpl.org.
