Saturday, May 1 through Saturday, May 15: All HMCPL branches will offer Food for Fines.
For each non-perishable food item a patron brings in, the library will forgive $1 in overdue fines from their library card. The donated canned and boxed goods will benefit those in need of service through the CANS (Caring and Nurturing Support) Food Drive, sponsored by Leadership Huntsville/Madison County Alumni.The library will only accept new, unopened cans and boxes of food within the expiration date, and charges for lost or damaged items cannot be waived. The town of Triana will host a community event celebrating the re-opening of their branch library and the Boys & Girls Club in temporary facilities.The town plans to temporarily house the library in a portable building adjacent to the Triana Municipal Building and the Boys & Girls Club will be based in the gymnasium and adjoining office space.
The opening festivities will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with remarks at 2:30 p.m. from community leaders. Hot dogs will be served and all children who attend will be given a book to keep.
