Getting Started

Class name Body

Basic PC Skills 1

Students in this class will learn the basics of how a computer works as well as how a user interacts with a computer while becoming familiar with computer terminology. The class also explores basic file management and working with programs. No prior knowledge needed.

Basic PC Skills 2

This class will use the Paint program to expand on the skills learned in part 1. Then the class will present an introduction to the Internet. You should already have mastered the skills in Basic PC Skills 1 within the 18 months previous to this class.

Email

Learn the basics of sending and receiving messages and attachments, using an account you already have or one you can get for free. You should already have mastered basic PC and Internet skills.

Internet 1

This class will explain how the internet works with a focus on internet terminology. From there the class will move to basic website navigation and wrap up with a section on working with search engines. You should already have mastered the skills in Basic PC Skills 2.

Internet 2

This class will discuss the Cloud and Internet security. The class will also cover using Favorites and Bookmarks as well some advanced tool for search engines. You must have completed Internet 1 at HMCPL within the 18 months previous to this class.

Keyboarding for Beginners

Letter Chase Typing Tutor helps build accuracy and forms the basis of additional self-taught exercises. No prior knowledge required.

Keyboarding Lab

An experienced typist will guide you in gaining additional keyboarding skills. You should have mastered the skills in Keyboarding for Beginners within the 18 months previous to this class.

Learn how to use the Internet's #1 database for genealogy. You should already have mastered basic Internet skills.

Footnote / Fold3

Learn about Fold3: A place where original historical documents are combined with social networking. This database includes documents relating to the Revolutionary War, Civil War, WWI, WWII, US Presidents, historical newspapers, naturalization documents, and many more. You should already have mastered basic Internet skills.

Looking for your ancestors? Learn how to use some great websites for your genealogy research. You should already have mastered basic PC and  Internet skills.
