Engage the Enemy More Closely III

The Battles of Coronel and the Falklands were the first two major naval engagements of the First World War.  The defeat of Admiral Craddock's British squadron in November 1914 at the Battle of Coronel by Admiral von Spee's Asiatic Squadron was Britain's first defeat at sea in over a century.  The British got revenge one month later at the Battle of the Falklands that ended the German threat to British maritime trade in the Atlantic and Pacific.  The events are thrilling and a little known campaign from the early days of modern navel warfare.
