Images of Cuba

Julia W. Gary
December 1, 2014 to January 30, 2015

Photography isolates life in fractions of a second, a tiny piece of a bigger reality.  It is a reality that changes according to the viewer’s reality perhaps guided by the photographer’s vision.  For me, Black and White images are simple:  black shadows, white spots and various shades of gray.  This simplicity sharpens architecture, landscapes and portraits in ways we would not normally see.  Once color disappears from an image I can see the lines, the curves, the shadows, everything that gives personality, perspective and feeling to the image.  I like seeing how the image changes from the moment the camera’s shutter is depressed embedding the image on the film and finally seeing the image emerging on the paper as it swims in the final tray of water.  I shoot film, I hand develop the film and print the image.  And if the viewer likes the result of my endeavors I am gratified, and if that viewer sees in my photography a different reality, something even I didn’t notice, I am pleasantly honored.  JuliaPhotography256.wordpress.com Read more about Images of Cuba
