Hollywood goes 'country' in HMCPL/LearningQuest film series

Join local musician and educator Jim Cavender and HMCPL's own David Lilly for a free film series and discussion, Hollywood Country. The success of the 1980 film "Coal Miner's Daughter," opened up country music and performers to popular filmmaking. This lecture and film series explores the way Hollywood has presented country music in contemporary films. Four acclaimed movies will be shown at 6 p.m. at the Downtown Huntsville Library, 915 Monroe St., on the dates below:

  • May 1: Coal Miner's Daughter (1980), Sissy Spacek, Tommy Lee Jones
  • May 8: Walk the Line (2005), Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon
  • May 15: Honeysuckle Rose (1980), Willie Nelson, Dyan Cannon, Amy Irving
  • June 5: Tender Mercies (1983), Robert Duvall, Tess Harper

This series is co-presented by HMCPL and LearningQuest.
