Library Services Platform RFP
Introduction
Huntsville-Madison County Public Library is initiating a search for a 21st century Library Services Platform (LSP) that will meet the needs of our growing physical and digital collection for our high tech community.
The RFP
You may download a copy of the RFP from this page. No registration is required to get a copy of this document. This document is only available as a PDF.
Schedule
The RFP will be released to vendors on Wednesday, 14 November 2012. Responses to the RFP are due by 2:00 PM CST, Thursday, 17 January 2013.
Registration
To stay current with information regarding the release of this RFP, you may either subscribe to this page's RSS feed (see the RSS icon at the bottom of this page), or sign up for email alerts on new posts. To get emailed alerts, you must register for this blog on this registration page (be sure to check the Join Library Services Platform RFP checkbox); registration is voluntary, your information will only be used for this RFP, and will not be shared with anyone outside of HMCPL.
Questions
Vendors who have questions regarding the RFP may contact our ssakovich [at] hmcpl [dot] org (subject: LSPRFP%3A%20question) (Systems Librarian, Sherry Sakovich). Questions will be answered via this blog (see Registration above.)
Addenda #6: Data Migration
Question:
What data elements do you want migrated?
Answer:
We will need to migrate everything that is currently in our database including all patron, bill, payment, item, bibliographic, holds, transaction, acquisitions, and serials information.
Addenda #5: Bookmobile Transactions
Question:
Do you want the bookmobile to operate in real-time or in batch mode?
Answer:
Our bookmobile operates in real-time mode and only uses batch mode for emergencies.
Addenda #4: Hosting Options
Question:
Which option does the library prefer: hosted solution (hosted by the vendor) or an on-premise solution (hosted by the library)?
Answer:
We are open to a variety of hosting options whether they are vendor-hosted or on-site, whichever option the vendor feels is best for our system. Please be aware that we are currently staffed for a SaaS solution and have no plans to accommodate additional management tasks.
Addenda #3: Current ILS Hosting
Question:
Are you currently hosted by SirsiDynix?
Answer:
HMCPL's ILS and discovery interface are both hosted by SirsiDynix SaaS services.
Addenda #2: Content Integration and Searching
Question:
What are your expectations regarding AVL (the Alabama Virtual Library) as well as your other databases and local content goes? Are you looking for links to these resources, or true federated searching from within the Discovery Tool itself? Would you like pricing to reflect the full Federated searching capability, or to be included as an option?
Answer:
Ideally, we would like to see all such content, e.g. AVL databases, HMCPL databases, ebooks, and local digital content, integrated and searchable through the discovery interface. If this functionality is available through the platform, any costs associated with licensing, customizing, or integrating this content should be provided as per section 4.6.2 in the RFP as an optional feature.
Addenda #1: RFP File Format
Question:
Would it be possible to receive an editable Word document of this RFP for copy/paste purposes?
Answer:
Use this link to obtain a copy of HMCPL's Request for Proposal in rich text format.
