Annual Black History Month Celebration

The theme for this year's program is Raise the B.A.R. (Black American Renaissance) to promote better literacy and education for our youth through STEAM/STREAM inspired events and activities. We hope to encourage and challenge our youth to do what it takes to go the distance like the concept of potential energy vs. kinetic energy to show the relationship of simply being an educated person vs. an educated person who actually uses the education they've attained to leave an influential mark on society.

The program begins at 3 p.m. with hands-on youth learning activities in Youth Services. Children – adults, too – can find out more about black pioneers by searching for "Hidden Figures" located throughout the library inspired by the soon to be motion picture movie set in the middle of the civil rights movement, that tells the never before told, true story of NASA's African-American female mathematicians who played a crucial role in America's space program.

Starting at 5:15 p.m., the festivities will commence, featuring music, art, dance, and fashion performances. Various authors and vendors will also be on site.
