The Big Read Poetry Contest Winners

The HMCPL would like to announce the winners of The Big Read Poetry Contest from Madison County.

They are: Rodelle Gardner, Jasmine Willis, and Haley Rose. All three of these students are in the 7th grade at Whitesburg Middle School. Each will receive a prize of $15 for their poetry submissions. The poems will advance to a statewide poetry contest being held in conjunction with The Big Read: Alabama reads The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain, which the HMCPL is hosting throughout Huntsville and Madison County March 27 – May 1.

Book Video Challenge Submissions Due

TEEN BOOK VIDEO CHALLENGE -
Can you create an awesome book video trailer?

 The rules are simple…

 Create a trailer advertising a favorite teen book.

 Videos should be 3 minutes or less.

 Videos should focus on creativity.

 Book Videos should advertise a Young Adult novel – Browse our Young Adult area or visit our website for book ideas.

 Book Videos can feature live action (real people like you or your friends), cartoons, clips, images (pictures), puppets, etc (Be creative!)

 

All videos should be submitted to maggie [dot] allen [dot] hpl [at] gmail [dot] com (subject: Book%20Video%20Submissions) (Maggie) by email or in person.

 All videos are due by April 24, 2010.

 Winners will be announced April 29, 2010 at 6pm.

1. Two-Dimensional Art (Anything that you’ve sketched, painted, etc)

2. Digital Art (Anything that you’ve created with the help of a computer)

3. Tom Sawyer Art (GRAND PRIZE In honor of this year’s Big Read – The Adventures of Tom Sawyer – we challenge you to create a new representation of Tom Sawyer. Keep him recognizable, perhaps use a scene from the novel, but be as creative as possible. Who know? Maybe Tom Sawyer would be a great character for a Manga!)
