Noir @ the Bar serves up murder, mayhem, music to benefit Madison Library

The Madison Public Library presents Noir @ the Bar, a night of murder, mayhem, and music on the patio at Blue Pants Brewery, 500 Lanier Road in Madison, on Wednesday, July 15. The music will start at 6 p.m. with murder and mayhem served up at 7.

Live music will alternate with readings and dramatizations from local mystery authors J.D. Frost, Kathleen Cosgrove, and Michael Guillebeau. Buy a book, and the author will sign the book and buy you a beer.

Madison Library Manager Sarah Sledge recommends these authors to anyone who loves a good whodunit.

“J.D. Frost writes dark, vivid noir that should be perfect for reading out loud. His first novel, Dollface, followed a troubled detective chasing a serial killer in Chattanooga. Kathleen Cosgrove is a former professional comedian out of Nashville whose first book, Engulfed, is a hilarious Florida-weird detective story. And Madison’s own Michael Guillebeau has written A Study in Detail and the Falchion Award finalist Josh Whoever. We’re going to do an informal play based on a twisty little story of Mike’s.”

Get into the hard-boiled spirit of the occasion, and it could pay off big. Wear an authentic noir costume to the speakeasy, and you’ll get a free book bag. You might even win the prize for most noiresque costume.

Everybody will benefit from the evening because a portion of all food and beverage sales will go to the Madison Public Library.
