January Events at Monrovia

January is shaping up to be a phenomenal month at Monrovia Library.  Preschool story time meets every Monday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m.  This month's themes are penguins, winter clothes, polar bears and snow.  Tuesday, Jan 8 at 1:00 p.m., Home School Story Time travels around the world with Flat Stanley.  Also, on Tuesday, Jan. 8 the Lunch and Love Romance Book Club will meet at 11:00 a.m. with a brown bag lunch and discuss The Cowboy and the Princess by Lori Wilde at the Community Center next door to the library.  Our Spanish/English Conversation Circle meets Thursday, Jan 17 at 6:30 and travel will be our discussion topic. Finally, local author Melanie Dickerson will be at Monrovia on Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 6:30 to talk about her newest book, The Fairest Beaty.  To find out more about these events visit our calendar at hmcpl.org or call 256-489-3392.

Family Movie Night at Monrovia

Monrovia shows family-friendly movies for a free movie night once a month.  We offer 25 cent popcorn and drinks.  Join us in February for a fun family feature.  For more information contact Monrovia Library at 256-489-3392.  

Spanish Story Times

The Madison Public Library begins a once-a-month Spanish story time on Monday, January 14, at 10:30 a.m.

Special guest Ms Susana will host an all Spanish storytime with fun songs and stories on the second Monday of each month. Books and songs will be appropriate for ages 2-5. Contact Maggie Allen at mallen [at] hmcpl [dot] org or 256-461-0046 for more information.

Virtual Field Trip! Series Favorites: Heroes, Scamps, and Sidekicks

This is a fun webcast that will feature your favorite series authors, R.L. Stine (author of Goosebumps), Kathryn Lasky (author of The Guardians of Ga'Hoole), Jim Benton (author of Dear Dumb Diary and Franny K. Stein) - plus a special appearance by Dav Pilkey (author of Captain Underpants)!  These authors will discuss how they make their series and characters come to life.  Henry Winkler and Lin Oliver (authors of Ghost Buddy and Hank Zipzer) will host this awesome webcast for kids in grades 3-5!

Scholastic Book Fair

Oh the weather outside is frightful, but READING is so delightful!  Come join us for our annual January Book Fair.  Past book fairs have purchased rugs, dollhouses, train tables, and books for the Youth Services area.  Part of every sale is donated to the Youth Services area and will be used to benefit the children of our community.

Storytime Visit with Author Diane Burch

Join author Diane Burch as she discusses her latest picture book, MaxNificant, the Polk Dot Pyrenees!  We'll read some other books about dogs and make a MaxNificant craft.
